Dock Construction & Repair

Hanson Marine Construction builds and repairs fixed timber and composite docks for waterfront homeowners in Hampton Roads and Currituck County. Most residential docks are permitted, driven and decked within four to eight weeks of approval.

A dock is the front door to your waterfront. We build it to survive the Chesapeake's tides, nor'easters and marine borers — driven piles, hot-dipped hardware and decking that stays flat.

How we build it

The work, step by step.

    Site visit & design

    We walk your shoreline, check water depth and bottom conditions, and draw the dock to fit how you use the water.

  2. 02

    Permitting

    We prepare and submit the VMRC / Army Corps or Currituck County permit package on your behalf.

  3. 03

    Pile driving

    Piles are driven from our barge-mounted excavator to refusal — not jetted, not set in a hole.

  4. 04

    Framing & decking

    Stringers, joists and decking go on with corrosion-rated hardware, then we clean the site like we were never there.

Docks: what people ask

How long does a new dock take?
Permitting usually takes 4–10 weeks depending on the locality. Once approved, most residential docks are built in one to two weeks on site.
Do I need a permit for a dock in Virginia?
Yes — nearly all docks on tidal waters require a VMRC and/or Army Corps permit plus local approval. We handle the paperwork.
Timber or composite decking?
Composite costs more up front but never needs sealing and won't splinter. Treated timber is the budget option and lasts 15–20 years with care.
